About Claire

Claire Binnion is a Clinical Psychologist with over 10 years experience working with both adults and IMG_7220young people. Claire obtained her Masters degree from Flinders University as a mature age student, after years living and working abroad. Since then she has worked extensively across the public system, school system, and private practice. The psychological approach used at Reflect Psychology incorporates evidence-based therapies including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness, EMDR, Neuroscience, and Self-Compassion Based Cognitive therapy.

Claire has a passionate interest in the treatments of anxiety and depression, trauma (childhood or single-incident), relationship issues, shame, perfectionism, stress and emotional turmoil. In addition to this, she appreciates that therapy can be a space that aids growth and development, not just healing, and as such therapy can be a process of finding deeper meaning and fulfilment in life, not simply the resolution of problems. She recognises that deeper pain and suffering can make it hard for us to connect with others and live a meaningful life. Her therapeutic approach is therefore focused on delving deeper, looking at but also beyond the surface level symptoms, and working towards a greater understanding and healing of whatever may be deeper down. Ultimately however, therapy is guided by the needs and desires of the client, and their treatment requirements.

On a more personal note, Claire spent many years developing a regular meditation practice while living in a Buddhist retreat centre in Scotland. She has her own lived experience of suffering in life, and has lived quite diverse and unique experiences, which contributes to the grounded wisdom and empathy that she hopes to bring to the therapy room.

This is part of her own personal practice of psychological growth and development, and continuously building her own conscious awareness and psychological understanding of the wholeness of the human psyche. Understanding the unconscious processes that are heavily involved in psychological problems, and healing, is something that Claire values deeply and can explore with those who are interested. Claire is currently studying a Diploma of Analytical Psychology through the Centre for Depth Psychology based in Switzerland. Once completed, this will enable her to work with clients interested in Jungian style dream analysis. Currently though, analytical work does not officially form a part of Claire’s clinical practice.
